Electrician in Cardiff

Cardiff is twenty minutes down the M4 from the van, and it is where most of our bigger jobs come from. Rewires in the older terraces, fuse boards in the 1930s semis, EICRs for landlords, and EV chargers on driveways all over the city.

The houses here, and what they need

Cardiff is really three different wiring jobs in one city. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Cathays, Roath, Canton and Grangetown are mostly solid-walled, often converted into flats or shared houses, and a good number still have wiring from the 1970s or earlier. The interwar semis of Llanishen, Whitchurch, Rhiwbina and Heath tend to have had a board change at some point but not a rewire. Then there is everything newer, from Pontprennau to the Bay, where the wiring is sound and the work is usually EV chargers, garden power and extra circuits.

What we get asked for most in Cardiff

01

Rewires in the older terraces

Cathays, Roath and Canton houses are usually solid walled, which means chasing, so how the cable is run makes a real difference to the price. Landlords and student houses often want it done between tenancies, which is quicker and cheaper than working around people.

02

EICRs for landlords

Cardiff has more rented houses than anywhere else we cover, and every one of them needs a valid electrical condition report. The report comes back with anything that failed listed and priced separately, so you can decide what to do about it.

EV chargers on driveways

Straightforward on most suburban drives in Llanishen, Whitchurch or Pontprennau. In the terraces it depends entirely on parking, which is covered in the guide on charging without a driveway.

Parking and access

In the inner terraces the van cannot always get outside the door, and residents-only bays need thinking about for a full day on site. It is worth mentioning your street when you get in touch so the day is planned properly, rather than losing an hour of it circling.

Questions we get asked in Cardiff

Do you charge extra to come out to Cardiff?
No. Cardiff is inside the patch and work is priced by the job, so the figure is the same as it would be in Pontyclun. What can add time is access rather than distance: a full day in a residents-only bay needs planning, and some inner-city streets cannot take the van outside the door.
Can you do an EICR on a shared house or student let?
Yes, and Cathays and Roath are where most of them are. Every circuit is tested and the report comes back with anything that failed listed and priced separately. Between tenancies is the easiest time, because the power can be off all day without anyone minding.
Which parts of Cardiff do you cover?
CF3, CF5, CF10, CF11, CF14, CF15, CF23 and CF24, which covers the city from Grangetown and the Bay up to Llanishen, Whitchurch and Pontprennau, and out east to Pontprennau and St Mellons.
